We ate at the new ECHO Restaurant tonight. First time, Diner. I will not return. Overpriced and overated. Contrary to many of the reviews on this site, which are probably written by staff, this is not a first class restaurant. I have lived in Fresno over 40 years and eaten in some of the best restaurants around the world. I also cook gourmet meals at home for friends and family. The meal started off with a push for their cocktails which were featured on the back of the menu. When the waitperson returned he asked what cocktail we were having tonite. I came to eat, not drink something sweet, with or without the umbrella. I ordered the $43 beef cut, I forgot what it was called. It came in an oversized pasta bowl sitting on some overcooked spinach. I see why it was served in a bowl because the liquid from the spinach totally diluted the reduced sauce quoted in the menu. The size of the meat portion looked like a filet that had been cut in half down the middle. I would say it was 2 inches long, 1 1/2 inches wife and customarily think. The `garlic paste` quoted in the menu was like Christopher Ranch minced garlic with too much salt added to it. The downer was the liquid that the steak was bathed in. The taste of the meat was average, not that good natural filet flavor (For good filet go to Campagna across the street for $10.00 less). My wife had the duck breast, which was average. The desert was profiteroles with orange cream and chocolate sauce. We just had the same item last month in Italy and we wanted to compare. The chocolate sauce was supreme, dark, chocolatey flavor. The profiteroles themselves were adequate. The bummer was the absence of the orange cream. Not to be found. The coffee was McDonald's quality. Maybe it was a bad night and the people that run the place were not in charge. The place was less than half filled for a Friday nite, which is not a good sign for the lonegevity of the restaurant at its new location. It does have an advantage, you can walk right in a get a table. Foster
